Lumbar Spinal Stenosis is one of the most common causes of disability and loss of independence in older adults caused by a gradual narrowing of the spinal canal, usually because of arthritic changes in the spine, leading to pain, heaviness and numbness in the legs when standing and walking that is alleviated by rest. LSS leads to increased inactivity, a more sedentary life-style, more degeneration in the hips and low back and then even more disability and decreased quality of life.
LSS Bootcamp was developed at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto and is a scientifically based six week program of gradually increasing in-office mobilization and home exercises that participants can easily and safely perform to self manage their condition on an ongoing basis. Then, all that’s needed is a check up about every 3 months.
